Based on 50 years of empirical research on SIMA® (System for Identifying Motivated Abilities), MCORE is a revolutionary new assessment that combines people’s stories and quantitative science to identify the unique blend of motivations that drive individuals’ behavior.
All 27 MCORE scales meet the highest standard of reliability as measured by Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. In a national validation study, alpha coefficients ranged from .70 to .85, with a mean of .80. This indicates a high degree of internal consistency according to scientific standards, which set .70 as the minimum coefficient for “acceptable” reliability.
Research on the MCORE has demonstrated strong construct validity based on factor analysis procedures, and convergent and divergent validity based on correlations with the Big-5 personality index, one of the most scientifically valid and widely used personality measures.
CCG Chief Scientist, Dr. Todd Hall, joined the MCORE team in 2013 to help lead the research and technical development of MCORE. MCORE is based on 50 years of research from the System for Identifying Motivated Abilities (SIMA®), a semi-structured interview and coding system for identifying an individual’s core motivations. During the 1980s, SIMA biographers began to identify recurring motivational themes, which provided a foundation for MCORE.
In 2013, the team began development of the MCORE to meet the need for an online, cost-effective quantitative assessment of core motivations. In order to retain the power of narrative in the assessment, we combined narrative and quantitative methods in a way that produces real-time, quantitative results. After conducting several validation studies, we developed an individual report to help people discover their core motivations and gain a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment in work and life. Since 2013, we have trained hundreds of facilitators to use MCORE in a coaching context, and helped organizations in numerous industries create a Connection Culture by improving teamwork and collaboration.
